I should have blogged after last weekend sooner. It was so much fun having everyone to our house on Sunday and then spending Monday (his "real" birthday) as a family. While the weather didn't really cooperate, it ended up not mattering anyway. Don and I divided and conquered (almost) all of the tasks we needed to do on Saturday. I took Leah food shopping and he took Ian to do the other errands. Ian decided with all of the excitement that he didn't need to nap. Well, Don and I disagreed, so there was a battle royale. Don ultimately won and took Ian for a drive to make sure he got some rest before the Engles arrived.
We hung out around the house that afternoon and Derek and Ian played surprisingly well together. Their favorite activity - filling the Buzz pinata with candy. The grownups ordered Poncho Loco for dinner....mmmm! The PA Cornes arrived around 10 with Paige (who sleepily clung to Don) and Shane (who loved all the new toys our house held for him). The ladies turned in early while the guys stayed up way too late. So it was normal.
Sunday arrived quickly and the house got straightened up and the food arrived. Despite the caterer locking his keys in the car, the food was delicious. We are still eating leftovers! There was rain all morning until the Frains showed up. Then the sun came out! While it wasn't really warm, it was nice enough for the Bounce House to get a workout from 20 or so kids. Poor Genna got water dumped on her head from the leftover rain. Luckily, she lives super close, so she could run home to change. Ian had no problems being the center of attention and marched around the house like he owned the joint. Before we knew it, it was cake time, pinata time and present time. Ian did pretty well and opened all of his gifts and said Thank You. Most people left around 1:30, but we had some stay until 4 or so. That was nice. His favorite gift was a weed whacker and goggles from the Duffs. He has played with almost everything already.
For the evening, Don and I decided to let him watch the movie "Cars" and have ice cream downstairs (what a treat!). We all got into our PJs and settled in. He made it 5 minutes into the movie and didn't even take one bite before he fell asleep leaning on Don. Birthdays can wear you out!
I took Monday off of work and we decided to head to Southwick's Zoo in Massachusetts. It was a nice day and Ian loved it. They had rides and playgrounds and animals to see. He even got to ride an elephant! I hope to post some pictures soon. Both kids were in great moods all day and I think that was our present from them. Don't ask about that night with Leah though. It was the worst yet.
Memorial Day weekend will be busy in Boston on Sunday. Don is running his 3rd Half marathon. We are going to watch for the first time. I'm excited!
